The economy during this time was primarily a market based economy. There was a lot of commerce between Europe and Asia with the silk trade. Because of all the surging economic growth in southern China due to the silk trade, it resulted in the loss in over half of the countries forest land. While the deforestation of China was going underway, the spanish wanted a little bit of the action in expansion so they went to and found the Philippines. The spanish Used the Philippines as a place to repair their ships. There was a lot of expansion during this time. While the Spanish were taking over the Philippines, the British decided to expand to India to exploit and develop it under British rule.
