In this chapter it talks about property rights and labor rights. private property does not constitute for anyone an absolute and unconditional right. Expropriate property means to take it from its present owner. Social mortgage is when you never really own land and that it is God's land. You can't own unlimited property if people are not flourishing. When it comes to labor, living wages are a right. When living a good life you can support yourself and or your family at a level of comfort. Work should not be a bad thing but a path to your fulfillment.

In this chapter it describes all the struggles the west went through and the economic downfall in the Great Depression. The 20th century was a time of crisis for the wet because a lot of problems happened and a lot of things went wrong during this time period. The economy and the fall of governments challenged the core values that defined "The West". During the times of world war 1 and world war 2 the US learned that systems of alliances can be dangerous, improved tools of killing, and established organizations of global cooperation. The Holocaust was actually many small actions done by various people to kill the jews. The US learned from the Great Depression that capitalism can be very unstable if not regulated and that the regulation of economy is important. The purpose of having an economy is to supply meets demand, circulation of money, every citizen has an opportunity for a job, and to spread the wealth.

In this chapter, it talks about the expansion of the western world to the east and why the west didn't have an impact on the Chinese. The main reason why the west had little impact on the Chinese was because the Chinese thought they were doing well without help from the western societies. China did not have a industrial revolution and many of the citizens still lived a very simple "peasant" lifestyle. The Chinese population was also growing and is now china is the most populated country.  This chapter also talks about the opium wars going on between the west and the east. The West was selling opium to the east and the Chinese community were embarrassed that they couldn't control the trade of opium.
Another society talked about in thus chapter is the Ottoman empire or better known as Turkey. The Ottoman empire didn't feel the need to be influenced by the Europeans yet European influence had taken over many nearby colonies. The Ottoman empire had "defensive modernization". They incorporated new secular policies of liberalism and this looked like a sell out to the west.

IN the Industrial era, Britain had a mass production of factories in cities A lot of the factories were powered by machines that used coal and some sort of combustion engine. With the rise of industrialism there was a separation of classes, High class, Middle class, and Low class. There started to became shop and factory owners and than there was the workers. High class people owned the factory while the middle class were the ones who ran it, and the low class were the labor workers who worked in the factory. Many of the workers had long hours and worked in harsh conditions while the high class reaped the profits from there products.

Franciose went to a boarding school at the age of two and Julie had a general education. Julie Billiart was bed ridden and had MS  while Franciose didn't have any major health issues. Julie taught from her bed and both were very active in society and weren't like most nun who are secluded from society.

In this section, it talks about the three revolutions, The American Revolution, the French Revolution, and the Haitian Revolution. The French revolution was composed of the Clergy, aristocrats and the rest of the french population. The rest of the French population were fed up with how they were being mistreated and they had enough. The American Revolution fed off of the French Revolution and then the Americans started revolting. These two revolution seemed to echoed off each other, iff one was doing something, than the other would soon follow. In the Haitian Revolution, the number of slaves massively outnumbered the total amount of free people, and they revolted. This Haitian revolution was the only slave revolution that got 100% freedom for all slaves in history.
